It’s no wonder a character like Vash would make it to the top of the polls (by the time we took the screenshot it became a tie again between Vash and Kakashi, but you were too late as I had already started writing and had just forgotten to remove the poll), he’s funny, has a heart of gold, and he’s also tough to beat in a fight (although he would rather not hurt others).
For those of you who don’t know who he is, Vash is the main character of an anime called Trigun. Created by Yasuhiro Nightow (anime directed by Satoshi Nishimura), Trigun takes place on the desert planet Gunsmoke that is home to human civilization after leaving Earth.
A mixture of the Wild West and steampunk, the population of the planet is rather sparse and mostly lawless. While in the pursuit of his brother, Vash causes the destruction of the city in July and gains a 60 billion double dollar bounty upon his head for it. (Doubledollar is the currency in this space western-themed anime). Vash suffers from amnesia and is not aware of the heinous reason for his bounty; he simply tries to spread the words of love and peace to every town he passes through. Villagers in each town treat him with fear whenever they find out who he really is and then promptly turn him into the local authorities in hopes of earning the bounty.
A very misunderstood hero, Vash attempts to save everyone in peril he comes across and usually ends up rather injured and scarred for it because of his pacifist ways. As he is being pursued by bounty hunters he encounters two employees of the Bernardelli Insurance Company, Meryl and Milly, who stay with him in order to try and keep the level of destruction in his wake to a minimum.
He enjoys the company of the two girls and befriends them as they travel together, bringing them to the conclusion that he is not the monster people make him out to be at all. Vash provides a ton of comic relief throughout the series and is normally posing with his fingers displaying the peace sign as he spouts the virtues of peace and love. His characteristic red trench coat, spiky blonde hair, and round sunglasses make him a cool-looking guy and give him dramatic entrance opportunities as well.
Vash the Stampede will certainly entertain you and warm your heart at times with his love for all living creatures. He makes Trigun an amazing anime!
